Sophie Manitowabi ist eine Potawatomi/Odawa Women’s Fancy Shawl Tänzerin und aufstrebende Porcupine Quillwork Künstlerin (ausgefallene Schaltänzerin & Stachelschweinborsten-Stickerei-Künstlerin). Sie ist ein eingeschriebenes Mitglied der Hannahville Indian Community auf der oberen Halbinsel von Michigan und eine direkte Nachfahrin der Wikwemkoong First Nations im Norden von Ontario.

Sophie tritt bereits ihr ganzes Leben lang bei vielen Pow Wows und anderen kulturellen Veranstaltungen quer durch die Vereinigten Staaten auf. Sie lernt immer mehr über ihre indigene Kultur und Geschichte, indem sie verschiedene Quillwork-Techniken erforscht und praktiziert. Sophie besucht derzeit das College of Business Administration an der Central Michigan University (CMU), wo sie Unternehmensführung studiert und als studentische Hilfskraft für das Office of Native American Programs arbeitet. Sie hilft bei der Planung und Durchführung vieler Campus-Veranstaltungen im Laufe des Jahres, wie z. B. beim jährlichen Celebrating Life Pow Wow der CMU und bei zahlreichen Unterrichtsvorträgen, um zu helfen, ihre indigene Geschichte und ihr Wissen mit anderen Studenten auf dem Campus zu teilen.

Sophie Manitowabi is a Potawatomi/Odawa Women’s Fancy Shawl Dancer and emerging Porcupine Quillwork Artist. She is an enrolled member of the Hannahville Indian Community located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and is a direct descendent of Wikwemkoong First Nations in Northern Ontario.

Sophie grew up attending and dancing at many pow wows and other cultural events across the United States throughout her life. She continues to learn more about her Indigenous culture and history by researching and practicing different quillwork techniques. Sophie currently attends the College of Business Administration at Central Michigan University (CMU) where she is studying Entrepreneurship and works for the Office of Native American Programs as a student assistant. She helps plan and facilitate many campus events throughout the year, such as CMU’s Annual Celebrating Life Pow Wow and numerous classroom presentations to help educate and share her Indigenous history and knowledge with other students on campus.
