Vanessa Miller

18 Jahre alt, Pit River Yogut

Vanessa stammt vom Volk der Payahuunadu („Wo das Wasser fließt“) aus Big Pine, Kalifornien. Sie gehört den Paiute, Shoshone und Pit River Yokut an und ist ein eingeschriebenes Mitglied des Big Pine Paiute Stammes. Ihre Großeltern sind Marion Miller und der verstorbene Delwood Wilson, ihre Eltern Sarah Miller und Steven Saulque.

Vanessa ist eine Schal- und Glöckchentänzerin. Der Schaltanz symbolisiert die Flügel eines Schmetterlings und stellt die Verwandlung eines jungen Mädchens zur erwachsenen Frau dar. Der Glöckchentanz hingegen steht für spirituelle Heilung und Wohlbefinden. Die Glöckchen bestehen aus alten Tabakdosen und gelten als Zeichen der Heilung für diejenigen, die sie am meisten benötigen.

Seit fünf Jahren ist Vanessa ein aktives Mitglied der AkaMya Culture Group und vertritt diese mit ihren Auftritten in der gesamten westlichen USA.

Vanessa comes from Payahuunadu (where the water flows), Big Pine, California. She is Paiute, Shoshone and Pit River Yogut and ist enrolled with the Big Pine Paiute tribe.

Her grandparents are Marion Miller and the late Delwood Wilson. Her parents are Sarah Miller and Steven Saulque.

She is a fancy shawl and a jingle dress dancer. The fancy shawl represents the wings of a butterfly and represents the emergence of young woman into adulthood. The jingle dress represents healing and spiritual wellness. The cones are made from old tobacco cans and are believed to healing to those who need it.

Vanessa has been a part of the AkaMya culture group for 5 years now and has been sharing culture through presentations throughout the western states.
